Have you got dad bod posture? Or maybe it’s not you you’re worried about, maybe your fella has a touch […]
Posture and age go hand-in-hand. Kids tend to have great posture. Over the years as we age our posture tends to get worse. Help is at hand here.
Think back to when you were a young toddler. You posture was probably effortless. Sure, you were clumsy. Really clumsy. But was posture a worry for you back then? No way! Being young means your posture is ‘bouncy’. Everything is still flexible, and you’re not limping around the room, moaning “my back, my back!”
Then come the school years. You’re forced to sit at an uncomfortable desk for hour upon hour. You learn to put your body sensations to the back of your mind. Concentration becomes a requirement. And if you don’t ‘look’ like you’re concentrating, then you’re in trouble. So you put on your ‘concentrating’ face, you ignore the discomfort, and you sit there. For hours.
Having to bend over your books to write, slowly your posture gets worse.
Puberty arrives, and you carry yourself self-consciously, acutely aware of how people are looking at you. Judging you. Sizing you up.
Then great, one year you’re out of education, and you get a job. You either bend over a keyboard for eight hour a day, or you perform repetitive uncomfortable movements. like driving, or being a dentist, or even a tree surgeon.
All of this takes it’s toll over the years. And your posture starts to become set. you look like your posture.
Then you retire, and you get stiffer, and the posture you held all those years gets worse and worse. What are you to do?
